Life at Mother House

Mother House is a warm and nurturing home-like environment, and supervised by a director and a live-in house manager. It can accommodate up to seven women and their babies. During their stay at Mother House, women are given encouragement, guidance, and emotional support to direct their lives and to develop the confidence and skills to live independently and responsibly.

For some of these women, their stay at Mother House may be the first loving and encouraging environment they have experienced.

Residents at Mother House:

  • Agree to see therapy counseling
  • Participate in group/individual counseling when necessary
  • Live in a cooperative household
  • Are encouraged to respect and support one another emotionally
  • Contribute to household upkeep
  • Are expected to observe basic house rules and courtesies, such as:
    • Curfews
    • No smoking, drinking, or drugs
    • No male visitors
  • Additional responsibilities of the residents include:
  • Getting a part-time job
  • Paying rent
  • Attending mandatory house meetings
  • Attend birthing classes arranged for by Mother House.
  • Mother House will provide personal necessities required by the residents, including their newborn babies.

While they are at Mother House, residents have a wonderful opportunity to be preparing for their and their baby’s (should they decide to parent) future by lining up:

  • Permanent housing
  • Household furnishings
  • Daycare
  • Baby items
